To mark this year’s World TB Day, we are hosting a panel discussion on UK leadership on TB and AMR.
n
n
The UK has shown considerable leadership on these issues, from creating the Ross Fund to invest in research and development for infectious diseases to commissioning the independent Review on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
n
n
That Review found that, if left unaddressed, by 2050 TB – already the world’s leading infectious killer – will be responsible for a quarter of AMR deaths with cumulative economic costs of over US$16 trillion.
n
n
The Government recently stated that TB and AMR will be two of its top priorities for engaging with the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2017.
n
n
Ahead of November’s WHO Ministerial Conference on TB and next year’s UN High Level Meeting on TB – and following last year’s landmark UN High Level Meeting on AMR and G20 discussions on stimulating research and development to address AMR at a global level – this panel discussion will be a timely opportunity to discuss the UK’s leadership on these crucial issues.
n
n
There will also be a photo opportunity for MPs and Peers to show their support for efforts to end the TB epidemic.
